POSITIVE ECONOMIC ACTIVITY FOR CALIFORNIA Two Indices Illustrate A Glimmer for Golden State
Two indices in the state show some glimmer of turning the corner on the recession. The Southern California Leading Economic Indicator, an index by the Institute for Economic and Environmental Studies at Fullerton State rose by 0.22 percent for the third quarter. The small if not tiny growth illustrates the prodding recovery that most economists predict for California. Second, the Purchasing Managers Index for the Inland Empire, Riverside and San Bernardino counties although falling 4.9 points, from 55.2 October to 50.3 in November is still in positive territory illustrating that the area's manufacturing sector is still expanding.
